LBS notes give name as Melvin Harrison. [RFSS Nov 2006] Obituary published in the Colorado Springs Gazette, 17 November 2013. Melvin Harmon Sinton October 12, 1927 November 7, 2013 Melvin Sinton, born October 12, 1927 in Colorado Springs, Colo., died peacefully in Port Angeles on November 7, 2013 at age 86 with his daughter and son at his side. He is preceded by his wife, Mary (Seabolt) Sinton, after a marriage and partnership of almost 60 years. Mel and Mary had three children, Tom Sinton now in Port Angeles, Lynda Sinton, in Denver, and youngest son, David, who passed way last year in Colorado Springs. He was the beloved "Papa" to his 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Family was always his top priority, and his greatest enjoyment was being with them and also with friends who became like extended family. His life was filled with so many great friends, old and new, and there are many wonderful stories of his experiences. In 1945, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines and after discharge in 1946, returned to Colorado Springs and started working for Colorado Interstate Gas Company, where he retired 35 years later as an Operations Vice President. His second career, shared with Mary, combined their skills and talents owning, renting, managing and maintaining their residential rental properties. Like his grandfather, M.M. Sinton, founder of Sinton Dairies in 1880, County Commissioner and City Council member, Mel was also active in the community and served as treasurer and later as president of the El Paso County Historical Society. In 2010, he moved to Port Angeles where he enjoyed the lower elevation and the panoramic views of the harbor, ships, Strait of Juan de Fuca, and mountains. After cremation he will be interned with Mary in Colorado Springs. A celebration of his life will be held at a yet undetermined date and place, to remember and celebrate his legacy of integrity, kindness, humor and love. In lieu of flowers, he suggested donations to your local volunteer Hospice organization. Information and photograph supplied by Joy H. Jones, Colorado Springs.
