Summary of Events.

All aircraft of this squadron were flown from Heston to Hunsdon arriving at 1105 hours. These were followed by the rear party which left Heston by road and which arrived at Hunsdon late in the evening. This completed the squadron movement as instructed by No 11 Group Headquarters signal 0147 dated 29/5/43. Headquarters No 11 Group, H.Q.F.C. and Records Glos. were signalled that the move had been completed.

Night operations were ordered by Headquarters No 11 Group and late in the afternoon, eight aircraft were despatched to advanced bases as follows, three to West Malling, three to Coltishall and two to Tangmere. All arrived safely, but did not take off again from these places as the operation was cancelled by Headquarters No 11 Group owing to adverse weather conditions.

All machines despatched to forward bases on the previous day, returned to Hunsdon during the morning.
Night operations were again ordered by Headquarters No 11 Group and the following aircraft were despatched to forward bases in preparation of this.

Owing to adverse weather the aircraft at Coltishall did not take off from there on operational work.
Aircraft A.A.436 on arrival at West Malling was unserviceable for operational work so it was flown back by the pilot to Hunsdon to collect a replacement aircraft arriving at 2200 hours. Aircraft A.A.655 was given an N.F.T. (Night Flying Test) but this was also found to be u/s for operational work, so only two machines took off from West Malling on operations, also two fromTangmere. Details of these four flighrs are contained in attached Form 541.

The seven aircraft away at advance bases returned to Hunsdon during the morning. Night operations were ordered by Headquarters No 11 Group and eight aircraft and crews were sent to the usual advanced bases. However, owing to bad weather conditions the aircraft at West Malling and Coltishall were not allowed to take off, and only the two machines at Tangmere carried out operational flights as detailed in Form 541 herewith.

Aircraft A.A.379 returned to Hunsdon at 1210 hours.
Night operations were again ordered by Headquarters No 11 Group and eight machines were flown to the usual advanced bases for re-fueling, after which they took off and carried out operational flights as detailed in Form 541 herewith.
Aircraft A.A.572 after becoming airbourne from Coltishall lost R.T. contact with Operations, Coltishall and as it went out at the same time and in the same locality as approximatelt 500 bombers, no plot of our machine appeared on the Operations Room table. Consequently its position could not be fixed. When it was realised by Coltishall that this machine, with its pilot F/O.A.B.Sinton and gunner P/O.L.A.Johnson was overdue, a search by Air-Sea Rescue aircraft was instituted but no trace of either the aircraft or its crew could be found.
This aircraft left Coltishall at 2330 hours.
Aircraft A.A.655, Pilot, Sgt.L.D.Anderson, Gunner F/Sgt.R.Craig, also had R.T. trouble after leaving Coltishall and was eventually "homed" to Bradwell Bay by means of searchlights.
As this R.T. trouble did not develop until the return from patrol, this machine carried out its full operational flight.
The other six aircraft also completed their operational flights as instructed by No 11 Group.
Aircraft A.A.379 and 548 returned to Tangmere, and A.A.663, 669, 418 and 653 returned direct to Hunsdon.
