Sons working on their father's farm were classed as labourers, becoming farmers upon their father's death and inheriting the farm, or by purchasing a farm.
1926 Labourer - from death certificate.

WLS gives year of birth as 1846.
Marriage registration in 1865 gives his age as 20, which would mean birth year of 1844/5.
Death regristration gives age at death as 82, which would mean birth year of 1843/4.

Death 2 Nov 1926 - registered by wife Sarah.

In his death certificate John is referred to as married. As Maria preceeded him, this would suggest that he remarried. Confirmed from the following census return.
