United States Social Security Death Index Given Name: Ira Surname: Sternberg Birth Date: 06 Dec 1895 Age: 70 State: Iowa Event Date: May 1965 [RFSS Apr 2015] Obituary in The Milford Mail, Dickinson County, Iowa published on Thursday, June 3, 1965 reads: Ira Sternberg Dies Saturday, Funeral Tuesday Ira B. Sternberg, 69, well known Milford resident, died unexpectedly Saturday evening in the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital from an apparent heart attack. He had been admitted that morning. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, June 1, in the Union Memorial Church with the Rev. Robert N. Ruleman officiating. Leyson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and burial was in the Milford Cemetery. Leonard Branstetter was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Frank Fellows. Mrs. Mike Maranell and Mrs. Howard Boers were in charge of floral arrangements and Mike Maranell, Howard Boers, Frank Hemphill, Floyd Woodely, Nathan Gould all of Milford and LeRoy Thrush of Spirit Lake were pallbearers. Mr. Sternberg, a resident of the Milford community since 1938, was born December 6, 1895, at Underwood, son of Fred and Bette Sternberg. He attended Iowa State College. He married the former Blanche Ellison, and the couple established their home at Woodbine and continued to reside there until moving to Milford. A retired dairy farmer, Mr. Sternberg was Past Chancellor Commander of Knights of Pythias, Past President of Milford Township Farm Bureau, Past Officer of the County Farm Bureau, served on the Milford School Board, and for 20 years served on the Dickinson County Farmers Mutual Association. Besides his widow he is survived by three sons, Jack of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Hubert of Torrance, California, Edward of Patterson, California; and a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Marilyn) Whipkey of Long Beach, California. Also surviving are three brothers, Fred of Carson, Arthur of St. Paul, Minn., and Louis of Tuscon, Ariz. [RFSS Apr 2015] |
