GENERAL NOTES |
(Geo. F., 1905; ... a child Katie Mayer, age 10 years. They live in Richmond.) (LBS Notes: "from a letter from Mrs. Hallie Sinton Boggs - October 14, 1933 {she a sister to Mollie Wrenn Vaughn's mother Carrie Sinton - and is spoken of as Auntie Boggs} .... "I don't think that I wrote you of the old punchbowl. A cousin, Katie Sinton Mayer has it. She is a deaconess at Grace Episcopal Church in New York City, and is a very lovely woman in every way. The bowl is said to have been used by the English officers during the Battle of the Boyne and dates back to 1690. Why the Sintons have it we do not know. Some Sinton must have had some connection with that affair in some way. Katie Mayer has recently been here on a visit and said that she knew that the ancestor Sintons were connected with the linen industry some way, and that some Sinton was buried under the chancel of a church over there, but did not remember much about it. You see, all the older Sintons here are dead, but one and she is such a little mouse of a creature - eighty-five years old. So many of the Sinton women are that way, living to themselves so quietly and taking no part in outside affairs. All of my father's sisters were like that. Our younger ones, however, are more wide awake I am glad to say."
