30 years on the railway
THE death took place last week of Mr. John Atkinson Walker of Carne, Portadown. He was 74 years of age.

Mr. Walker, known as Jack, had been ill in hospital.

After leaving school he worked for a short time with McGredy's nurseries but spent 30 years of his working life on the railways. Much of this time was spent as the crossing-keeper at Drumnagoon.

The last few years before his retirement were spent working with his brother Norman at Abraham and Walker's rose nurseries at Drumcree.

He continued to grow roses during his retirement and he was well known as an expert on the subject.

Mr. Walker belonged to Seagoe LOL No. 26 and Seagoe RBP No. 110, and he was a lifelong member of Ballinacorr Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Flossie, daughter Mrs. Jean Fossett, son-in-law, Denis and granddaughters Ashley, Jill, Heather and Carol, all of 'Gareth,' 10 Ballynamoney Lane, Lurgan.

Mr. Walker also leaves two brothers, Norman and Jim, and a sister, Emma.

The funeral was to Seagoe Cemetery following a service in Ballinacorr Methodist Church at which the Rev. Norman Fox officiated.
